Shopping cart and e-commerce
Creating a web site can be done in many ways.
In e-commerce, a shopping cart is a computer program that helps visitors make online purchases. At checkout, the software calculates the order total, including shipping charges, taxes and other parameters that the site owner has previously set. Typically, the shopping cart provides a means of collecting the buyer’s payment information.
Some only allow an item to be added to the cart to initiate the checkout process (such as the PayPal shopping cart), while others offer additional features that allow the merchant to fully manage the online store.
Shopping cart systems consist of two main components:
Storefront This is the area of the website that the visitor accesses.
Management This is the area of the website accessed by the merchant to manage the online store.
