Is an Internet database that contains information about domain names, including the name servers associated with the domain name, the domain registrar, the registrant, and the administrative and technical contacts for the domain. 

Through a lookup, you can find out when and who registered a domain, their contact information, where the website is hosted, when the domain expires, and so on.

In addition, is a tool that looks up domain name information contained in WHOIS databases. It is generally used to check the availability or ownership of a domain name.
